Strong energy-momentum dispersion of phonon-dressed carriers in the lightly doped band insulator SrTiO3

چکیده
Much progress has been made recently in the study of the effects of electron-phonon (el-ph) coupling in doped insulators using angle resolved photoemission (ARPES), yielding evidence for the dominant role of el-ph interactions in underdoped cuprates. As these studies have been limited to doped Mott insulators, the important question arises how this compares with doped band insulators where similar el-ph couplings should be at work. The archetypical case is the perovskite SrTiO3 (STO), well known for its giant dielectric constant of 10000 at low temperature, exceeding that of La2CuO4 by a factor of 500. Based on this fact, it has been suggested that doped STO should be the archetypical bipolaron superconductor. Here we report an ARPES study from high-quality surfaces of lightly doped SrTiO3. Comparing to lightly doped Mott insulators, we find the signatures of only moderate electron-phonon coupling: a dispersion anomaly associated with the low frequency optical phonon with a λ′ ∼ 0.3 and an overall bandwidth renormalization suggesting an overall λ′ ∼ 0.7 coming from the higher frequency phonons. Further, we find no clear signatures of the large pseudogap or small polaron phenomena. These findings demonstrate that a large dielectric constant itself is not a good indicator of el-ph coupling and highlight the unusually strong effects of the el-ph coupling in doped Mott insulators. متن کاملPhotoinduced states in a Mott insulator.
We investigate the properties of the metallic state obtained by photodoping carriers into a Mott insulator. In a strongly interacting system, these carriers have a long lifetime, so that they can dissipate their kinetic energy to a phonon bath. In the relaxed state, the scattering rate saturates at a nonzero temperature-independent value, and the momentum-resolved spectral function features bro...
متن کاملPhotoemission study of the metallic state of lightly electron-doped SrTiO3
The behavior of the metallic state of lightly electron-doped SrTiO3 has been studied using angle-integrated ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (UPS) and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). Two states in the bulk band gap of stoichiometric SrTiO3 are shown by doping electron carriers: a metallic state with a sharp Fermi cutoff and a broad state centered at 1.3 eV below the Fer...

We present a combined study of the angle-resolved-photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and quantum Monte Carlo simulations to propose a novel polaronic metallic state in underdoped cuprates. An approximation scheme is proposed to represent underdoped cuprates away from 1/2 filling, replacing the many-body Hamiltonian by that of a single polaron with effective electron-phonon interaction (EPI), th...
متن کاملPhonon mechanism in the most dilute superconductor n-type SrTiO3.
Superconductivity of n-doped SrTiO3, which remained enigmatic for half a century, is treated as a particular case of nonadiabatic phonon pairing. Motivated by experiment, we suggest the existence of the mobility edge at some dopant concentration. The itinerant part of the spectrum consists of three conduction bands filling by electrons successively. Each subband contributes to the superconducti...
